Just go to Paddy Pallin in Katoomba and tell em what you want. They don't sell any tents that aren't top-of-the-range.

If you go to Paddy Palins you wont be able to buy most of the tents we have talked about here.

Good store but classic franchise limits what it can sell. No TT ..no One Planet but maybe they have an option? The last time I asked there for a tent under 1Kg they borked at me... The guy said but it online.....

Are the prices you got for the goondie's.....we purchased a 2 and a 3 a few months ago and daily certain we didn't pay that amount.

We have only used the 2 to date....worked out just right for the wife and I.

It was a toss up between tarp tent and one planet....as we are new to hiking went with the goondie's as they are self supporting.

I have just ordered a Tarp tent, stratosphere 2.

I have had access to a tarp tent hog for a few years which is a 3/4 person tent at 1.8kg or 2.2kg with extra pole. Fantastic tent, great quality and design.

I went for the SS2 as at 1.3kg or 650g a person it is a solid tent which is super light weight, it can fit 3 people at a pinch which added to the appeal. I guess the main reasons for going with this tent was size, weight, design (I like the fact 2 people can sit up easily), I know the quality of the tarp tents and the flexibility. I like the fact that it can be pitched as a tarp only which means I can carry as a tarp with bivi and it will fit 4 people. Also handy if you need to pitch in a storm at lunch.

For me this provides options for travelling with the +1 as a tent and going light weight

Ended up buying from K2.......we haggled pretty hard as we purchased 2 x OP tents, 3 x OP sleeping bags, 1 OP pack, 2 x sleeping mats, 2 x walking boots.....in two purchases.

I cannot remember the price just for the tent.

Funny thing was they nearly lost the sale......

Lol, ok cheers. That was a big couple of purchases. I wish I could afford to do that haha - Although the wife enjoys bushwalking as well, she would probably stab my eyes out if I did that haha

I actually haven't bought a tent as yet - I'm in no rush as I am still injured plus I can't go and check out sizes etc from stores... I am leaning towards the Scarp 2 but still want to check out what I can pick up locally

Shameless plug ...
On the Tarptent site we now have a new version of our 3D clip.
They give a much better idea of how much space you have inside each shelter.

Go to the product page and scroll the "slide show" to the last photo, that one is the new 3 D clip.
It was a bit sluggish on my computer till yesterday.
(I just upgraded to a new desktop box...)
