When do/don't 'breathable/waterproof' jackets work?

Will take some pics for sure when I am home from my SA jaunt later in the week. My pack and asparagus bands are all ready to go for a walk once I get home, so easy peasy.

I did see on gossamer gear site that they sold some brolly straps, but my 2x wide rubber bands +/- sitting handle in my shoulder strap pocket does ok for now.
I have a six moons designs carbon brolly, so the 'stalk' is fixed length and short.

Maybe I am just not mixing in the right circles for brolly acceptance?!

Mary Poppins, teeheehee. Lamont, if you start carrying a carpet bag and offering spoons full of sugar out in the bush, we will have a serious problem.

Asparagus was delightful, some guilt attached to my enjoyment though as I noticed when prepping that it came from Mexico.

My very inelegant solution for brolly hands free. Works.
I said it was asparagus rubber bands, but maybe it was brocolini?!

Note brolly. Note rain. Note dodgy but DRY looking walker eating lunch while mapping at a servo. Shoulder pocket evident on pack, the rubber bands are also inside on that side.

Helinox Umbrella's can also tie off on your pack. The brolly already comes with a tie in the handle so you just need one extra tie attached to your shoulder strap. Works OK but not great.
I've got the Helinox Umbrella Two, 100g heavier but gives better coverage

whats that I spy on your lunch list.. Takeaway coffee, can looking suspiciously like a expresso/caffeine beverage and the muffin soaking up the servo ground petrol for an added boost.

Brollies are good in rain and sun, as I found on the Overland a couple of weeks ago...

Watertank, I also find mine useful in the sun, if in camp early, I lay my mat out, use it as faceshade and read a book or doze. Also, if it is very hot, it is nice to take my hat off for awhile and use it handsfree so I can vent some heat from my head. I also like it for venturing out at night in the rain (or snow!) for a wee break, much easier than dragging rain gear on and off. So many uses for the humble brolly. Even if we look like dorks. Hope you had fun on the Overland! Looks like you got nice weather, or at least for the very moment that the pic was taken in any case.

Your observation is indeed correct. When just one source of caffeine won't do....
There were epic hills to be had in the mud and rain, so needed jet power

That photo was one of the few afternoons of sunshine - this photo is probably more accurate...but of course if one is prepared it is all fine weather. An earlier post mentioned Paramo clothing - that is the brand I wore - a Bentu jacket - it was brilliant and despite it appearing to be not up to the task - I didn't get sweaty or hot
