TIP: The online
Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Aarn packs come with integrated but removable pack liners and roll tops to seal the pack. As do the front pockets for those that choose to use them. I too am surprised that other makers don't do this. If you look at the price of a quality waterproof seam sealed liner (that actually fits) it makes the Aarn packs look like a bargain. Hey, and they were designed by an Australian!!

When I'm not using my Aarn pack, I use a garbage bag.
Currently out on a hike, laying in my hammock with my new Jansport backpack as I type this.

I think garbage bags are the way to go if you don't carry a bivy.
I haven't noticed any premature wear of the bivy due to such use.
