Help Choosing a Comfortable Mat

Hey does anyone know if you can pair an S2S pump with an Exped Synmat? Just asking cos main peak don't seem to have the Exped pump in stock.

We purchased a xped schnozzel.....

Worked great on the weekend......if you are keen it can be used as a shower as well.

I got the pillow pump when I first bought my Exped but after a few months ditched it for a tiny S2S inflatable pillow and the Schnozzel. I got the *&^%$#@! with how long the pillow pump took to inflate my mat - I make camp too often at 1am to be bothered with 60+ pumps. Also the Schnozzel and S2S pillow combo takes up half the volume and the Schnozzel inflates faster and doubles as a dry bag.

For car camping which pump would you all recommend for the Expeds ?
Comparing the Exped against the S2S I'd say the latter were at least 50% better

Okay thanks guys, I will get the schnozzel then, and an S2S aero pillow.

And if you are really out of breath, you can even use the Schnozzel to inflate the S2S Aeros pillow Its also compatible with the pillow.
I havent tried slightly cheaper S2S pump options, but I have Scnozzel and is great, its worth the $50.

Has your expeds got a built in pump? The pumps mentioned in this thread would be ok for car camping i think.

My exped synmat 9 doesn't have a built in pump (i thought only the downmats had them) but it does have a non return valve in the inflation valve.

Well there is a hole for the NR valve in the centre of the inflation hole but there isn't a valve there and I see no way of putting in a replacement.
I paid a fair price having bought both mats thru the swap&sell I am more impressed with the ease of inflation/deflation of the S2S and I did find it superbly comfortable. R-value isn't a problem for me as I always carry a CCF and/or Ridgerest in winter

yeh I had an issue with it too. Mainly because I put membership in my cart then went back to shop some more stuff and then I couldn't join. I cleared my browser cache or history or something and went back later and it was sorted.

Use one to inflate clean mats at home (the nozzles don't fit, can make one easily enough but a cupped hand is all that's needed).
..really, such low pressure that I don't see a big advantage in a nr valve on the bag pumps..

I have and found it hmmm ok for pumping the mats up...But generally don't use it although I should. I found I can blow one up quicker with breath than using the pump.

I've found my matts(Exped UL7) have a lot of mold inside them and own 5 of them. Exped tells me the breath contains moisture and this has probably caused the mold. Saying that it looks ugly but has no real effect on sleeping.

I use the pump to store my clothes in as it is a dry bag and also wrap my Exped UL pillow inside the bag with my excess clothes.

I don't use it as a pillow .

Ah thanks Kingsley, I have read the breathing into the mats causes problems over time. I have purchased a pump + dry sack combo with a separate pillow altogether now and will see in time how that set up works.

Dan, my Xiaomi batteries arrived in the mail today. ha ha. a 16000 and a 10400 - only $55.90 thanks to Keithy's keen eyes for deals. i don't have an EE quilt tho, that's our special 'point of difference'. i've been wondering if i should buy some sort of small utility or survival knife…care to recommend me something? ;P

hahah Im liking that you don't want an EE quilt....if I had my time again..........

As for the knife, Im glad you asked! I used to use one of those cheap kmart coloured knives that had a nice plastic cover over the blade. But all I ever used it for was cutting salami so it was overkill really.
Soooo recently I was on good old ebay looking for one of those cheap crappy chinese key ring thermometers to hang off my pack and once I found one I decided to look and see what else the supplier sold (buying only a $2 thermometer with free postage doesn't seem right) so I came across one of those credit card type folding knives and I love it! It is small, light, easy to carry and cuts salami.........Its no good for any bear grylls stuff of course but perfect for my intended purpose.

Hey Dan, Just be really careful where you carry that knife, technically they count as a prohibited weapon.... yeah, I don't quite get it, something to do with being disguised, but they are on the list. Not likely to be a problem with a park ranger, but airports and court appearances are another story.

I must admit I was a little surprised it got through customs and arrived in my mail, they have a razor sharp blade on them. Ironically when I went to search my eBay to grab the link to put up here, the seller had a notice saying they can no longer sell them

Main peak are a bit slow with this order, they just emailed me to tell me the STS pump isn't compatible with the Exped Mat. I asked them if they have physically checked the two together....Im waiting on a response.

My only other order I placed with them was shipped within 24hrs.
