Hi folks,

I'm wondering if anyone could advise on how to patch up a largish sleeve tear in an eVent jacket?



I've had it duct taped until now but want a permanent fix - an $80 quote scared me away from the pro repair shops.

I imagine I'd need to sew on a patch and seam seal it, but eVent is not publicly available - what's an appropriate material to patch with?

Jacket is a pretty new Macpac Traverse.

Sorry I can't be of more help Rik, but just interested how this happened. Did it tear easily? I have a Traverse too.

Macpac will probably help you. They have been very helpful to a friend of mine who seems to need a lot of repair to his gear.

Tell you what, if you post it and a packet of twisties to me in nz I will fix for free. I can't get twisties here...
Please make sure it is clean tho...oh, and cheese twisties

Hadn't noticed the lack of Twisties in NZ.......

However, you guys have chocolate fish and pineapples, which , each year I have to find to bring back to my family, when I have been fishing/packrafting over there.

Rik, in the absence of a "Blacksheep" to effect such a repair like this, all you would need to do is to sew the edges together with a simple running stitch by hand , and then, once the repair is stable, put some sort of seam sealing agent along the seams. The seam sealing agent is not so much to make the seam waterproof, but to glue everything together. A patch is only needed is there is missing fabric.

@Strider - unfortunately the jacket tore on a tiny unseen flake of rock while portaging on the Franklin, but it was a champ on its first outing in a month's worth of heinous Fiordland scunge and Huey's wrath. It's been a good lightweight jacket, but requires the usual care lightweight gear demands.

So, any pics of the Franklin/Fiordland on the site??? Would love to see them

I'm not much of a trip report/photo/blog type - there was an article about the Fiordland trip in Wilderness magazine, you can PM me if you really want to see it.

Have a look on the ansco.com.au website they sell some large transparent plastic type patches that are stick on one side and are permanent
the stuff can be found at http://www.tear-aid.com/. I have no experience with this stuff but looks like we all need a bit in our kit.
