TIP: The online
Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

I want to replace my old Thermarest mat with something more comfortable. It would be great to buy a mat that I can use all year round (ie from warm summer nights to snow camping), but am wondering if the 4 season mats (eg Neoair XTherm & AllSeason, Exped Downmat) will be too warm in the summer, in which case I would look to use different mats for colder and warmer conditions.
Thoughts?

I use the same mat and sleeping bag all year and regulate my temperature by using my sleeping bag as a d quilt when warm and just the inner when hot. I use to use a 3/4downmat but now a full length Neo All seasons. Admittedly all my walking is done in Tassie. The way I look at it is I dont change my mattress at home so why would I when walking.

Makes sense. Most of my walking in the next 2 years will be in Vic, but will be making trips to Tas and NZ (Sth Island)

I use the Neo AllSeasons all year round, never had a problem.
Just need to adjust your other layers as required for different seasons.

Yeah +1 from me too. I walk in Vic and Tas mostly, and my Downmat 7 goes everywhere with me. I just adjust my night clothing and sleeping bag arrangement. Guaranteed good nights sleep every night.

+ 1 on what others have said.
I use the earlier version NeoAir, which is not 4 season, yet I have slept on it in snow in both Vic, Tas and NZ. It works well.
I have also slept on it during summer months in Vic, used with my summer quilt....I have never thought it was too hot.
