Any ideas on a LS top that will handle snags.
I like the King Gee smock style heavy cotton shirts for everything but the fact that they get and stay wet. All the lightweight options iv'e found just seem to end up as expensive rags.

I am keen to find a good shirt too for the summer months, I think a short sleeved shirt with these could be good for scrubby walks....maybe:

I also googled tough, nylon smock and it came up with this which probably doesn't help but I would love to see someone bushwalking in one!!!

These are not tough in the context of a cordura or n66 type yarn, but they are a Nylon (rather than poly) and have lasted some of the team here well as a hiking shirt (vented back panel, fold up double collar etc). This one worth a look perhaps

we also have an 8oz cotton canvas work shirt- tough, triple stitched ..but being cotton based has the same issues of slow drying etc, so not really a back country shirt for dodgy weather.

Shame Cam that the classic indestructible shirt was dropped when MacPac abandoned NZ. Still going strong is my NZ made one and the price has long since been forgotten. A case where I truly got what I paid for in the good sense of the meaning.

It will be sad when its lighter Aussie made MD compatriot eventually fails.

As for cotton. Great way to help hypothermia. Wool tops nice but shred at the sight of scrub. Nah, too much fashion made junk that is not fit for purpose of bushwalking.

I have been using the Mountain Hardwear Canyon Shirt as my everyday works shirt and every wander shirt for a couple of years and they have done the job well and no real issues in the field.

I have always found that buisness style shirts from the op-shop fit the bill. You can usually find somthing with your prefered blend of fibres.

There was a time when the op shop business shirts were fashionable bushwalking wear... or was that Hawaiian shirts The synthetic ones all thats needed for lots of walking.

I'm more thinking something other than cotton but getting up around the weight of the KG shirt (190g/m). I guess insulation is more important when wet (here in tassie) but ive found that anything thicker than the lightest thermal doesn't really dry overnight anyway (without help or improving weather)

There are lots of options as per macpac/mh (thanks), everyone seems to have a light, 'quick dry' synthetic option but not heavier synthetic or even blended.

The design something similar to the KG but with tab/gusset cuffs, vents , pockets not necessary, closed front..

Those arm gaiters would be handy if you go looking for scrub The suicide suit may work with a helmet (wombat style..)
