Flooring (cuben or silnylon?)

At the risk of being excessively general, I will ensure I ask a specific question. Or perhaps it will be more a statement of dilemma.

Fact: Cuben is more puncture resistant than silnylon.
Fact: Silnylon is more abrasion resistant than cuben.
Dilemma: Which makes a better floor fabric in terms of durability?

I am not fused by the difference of slipperiness, and the cost/weight trade-off is essentially negligible. I am saving weight either way and shave more off with the cuben tarp. I take good care of my kit, so any points on ca requirements are also annulled.

If you go the cuben route make sure the floor is 1oz or above as these weights have a double thickness polyester membrane compared to the lighter weights. Cuben is fully waterproof and easily repaired if any pin holes develop while sil-nylon (depending on the source) may leak at pressure points if pitched on wet ground even when new.

I'm posting between runs of sewing a cuben floor into my tent, it gets ridiculously difficult to do these things as an afterthought !!
Are you having one made or making? I'd agree with Mark either way. I'm using the heavier (45gsm?) stuff, wouldn't bother with the lighter grades. Easy to repair, waterproof (as in sheet plastic rather than fabric) compared to silnylon.
P/U nylon would be my choice over silnylon.

What an awesome idea for a light, cheap and fairly durable groundsheet. I'm off to the tip-shop to pick one up.

I'm looking at the MLD Superlight Bivy and also the Bug Bivy. They both come with either a cuben (0.75 oz/sq-yard / 25 grams/sq-m) or silnylon floor.

Would you be using the bivi straight on the ground or as I'd imagine over a light ground sheet.
If the later I'd say 0.74 would be okay but if straight on the ground no. I've a fair bit of cuben gear now, no way I would want the 0.74 as a floor without something under it.

Ask Ron at MLD for his ideas on the topic. I have always found him to be super helpful.
