Not sure which model you refer to in the redback range, but I was issued with redback Terra boots back in the army. Somehow ive accumulated 5 pairs still lying around and in good condition.
I found that they were quite comfortable, but the rim around the boots and soles wore off pretty quickly - but it gave us good grip.
We were told they were worth $300-400 but i doubt it. you can pick them up from ebay from time to time really cheaply. I like the 2 drainage holes they have on the instep so they water drains up and they do dry quicker than other leather boots.

My personal experience with Redback boots has not been positive; they have QC issues, although customer service and replacement has been easy I have had the soles on my workboots disintegrate twice now within 3 months of purchase and first use. my current pair are holding up well but they took 3 months to break in and I needed to remove the rigid foam call on the heel. For some reason they used CCF foam and not polyether in my pair. Footbeds are generic and need to be replaced with good orthopedic beds to be any good. The ones with steel toe caps still use the old mold design and are terrible

Hi Vicrev
Here is a vote for Redback Alpine boots.
I have taken a pair twice to Nepal, six weeks walking in all,
with about two weeks on snow and moraine at up to 5800m.
I particularly like them in very wet environments as the single skin leather
does not steam your feet and dries quickly.
Places like wet wading for trout in Tasmania or Nepal in the monsoon.
Good boots, they have lots of life left.

Ninjapuppet,

You actually rate the issue 'Terra' boots?! Seriously?! I remember losing most of one heel doing nothing more involved than a CFT in them (and they were the second generation design, not the much maligned originals that your link points to). Consequently, I've sworn off wearing them in the field ever since. They're great for sliding under a desk, though.

All the best,

Ian
