Announced yesterday in the US forums so might as well add the news here too.
Tarptent has a new shelter, the 3 person CB3 (a new version of the CloudBurst2)



and a re-designed Moment , now the Moment DW (Double wall)
This is close to the original drawings two door hybrid design (fly with two doors/walls) but with a fully detachable inner.
(mesh now, also in fabric later on)

Also you can now buy the StartoSpire1 and 2 as "fly" only.
In my book they offer a lot of protected space for the weight (570 and 700g ) and easier/faster to set up than some of the other LW offerings I have tried.


NOTE: the SS1 and 2 fly only is just the fly , no pegs (all the other shelters inc pegs in the weight and price)

Really like the look of the CB3. Shame there's not a CB4 for the family and id be straight on the purchase button. Pretty much what Im looking for and I like its options.

Mic how about two of them joined with a dedicated tarp and I am surprised they haven't developed that option, as Luxe have done with several of their smaller tents

Definitely down the track I'll go to two tents. (Im just being a protective mum of my little brood wanting them in with me whilst they're little....mind you I've often considered having the two short mats in the third person spot and having their heads at opposite ends).

Excellent looking shelters. Couldn't be more impressed with what my Scarp 1 has dealt with over the last 2.5 years.

Plenty of tunnel tents about but at 1.4 kg it is pretty competitive in weight as well as usable area..
The 218cm floor has a vertical wall (door) at both ends
a bit of a hybrid 3/4 season tent.
With the liner and the extra pole will do in some areas in winter but should excel in good weather when air flow is desirable.
The vestibules are usable not just for a pair of boots and it does have a bit of a protected entry .
As usual it sets up "dry" meaning you don't expose the floor setting it up in the rain.
The Moment is riding the success of the Notch. many liked the separate inner so the Moment has gone that way too.

I should not have looked at this topic....the double wall Moment is now calling to me....but I already have a perfectly servicable Moment.....

It's hard to make a lightweight 4 person tent, however the Hogback does fit 4 adults and takes up about 40% less space than some other shelters offering a similar usable cover and is still about 2 kg.
Sets up ,dry, in two minutes .
The headroom (125 cm) and square shape (with no pole/s inside) makes it easy to sit inside playing board games on a rainy day and you can still leave one or both doors open...

Franco, How does the new double wall moment differentiate itself from a Scarp? Is it just a lighter 3 season version or is there abit more to it?

The Scarp is a larger and heavier shelter.
Particularly noticeable if over about 180cm or so.
The difference in weight now is about 400g,(960g vs 1360g) less then before but still noticeable including the packed size.
I have used the first and the current version of the Scarp 1 but I prefer the Moment simply because it works for me (at 172cm) and don't need the extra space.
If more or less "camping" or expecting to spend a lot of time inside the shelter I would then switch to the Scarp or a Strato Spire 1/2.

Scarp has a rectangular floor with 4 pitchloc corners. Moment has a tapered floor with 2 pitchlock ends. Totally different shape end on.

Must be a light specimen that one. Mine is 1487g.

The weight does vary a bit.
I have a mesh version at 1355g and a solid one 9fabric) at 1450g

And here I was thinking Franco was going to announce a 10% discount at Tarptent for bushwalk.com members

Turns out its just another few brilliant, lightweight, industry leading tent designs from TT

Love my tarptents - best UL tents ever, and the service by Franco and Henry are great.
P.S- I have no affiliation with either, just love their gear.
Now when will Henry start CF tents and also different colors than grey?!!!!

no discounts but look on the bright side, if they were sold retail here they would be twice as much.

he already does. In the USA they come in gray.

seriously it would be nice to have colours and sizes but can't be done at those prices.

Love that three-way guyline setup on the CB. Nice looking tent.

I was asked yesterday about some details and realised that Henry was working on the CB3 in mid 2011.
The idea started earlier than that but the first designs that looked like the release version are from then.
The 3 way guyline was the last mod made.
It came about after another winter of Henry fiddling with it .
In the photos you see those guylines attached to the same peg as the vestibule but of course they will work better if spread out about two feet from there.
BTW, there is a bit of a delay because the factory can't keep up with the Double Rainbow orders .

I will be interested how it goes spanning the 218cm inner using just two poles as most other brands use three for that span. Be a good three season tent by the looks of it assuming it does not sag in the middle under heavy rain and or snow.

There is an optional 3rd pole available for it
