this is a totally new gore tex membrane, more breathable than previous versions
called "gore tex Pro" not "proshell"
its more like a laminated version of event, they got rid of the polyurethane covering membrane to enable it to breathe better
and it ain't cheap....

So back to the original version?
And still nothing in a proper full bib overall.

well its more elaborate than that. they treat the membrane to reduce body oils clogging it up as it used to do pre polyurethane days, and aparently they have three membrane layers, with one of them being a secret...

I've seen a few jackets, even late last year appearing on local shelves with "Gore Tex Pro" (as opposed to "Pro Shell") swing tags. I wonder if these feature the new membrane?

it's only just been released in the northern hemisphere. down under is usually behind up to half a year,
frankly i think they are fudging the naming a bit, it makes it a bit hard to work out what garments are really the new proshell membrane... the new membrane is essentially an elaborate and more expensive version of event.... but being gore tex it should be a fairly reliable product and if its not, it should be backed by a good warranty....

I saw this over at Outdoorsmagic. It's been my dream for Arc'teryx to make a shell out of eVent, and if it's true that this new Gore-tex allows eVent-like performance then... ooh.

I believe the new Gore Pro can be identified by the grid pattern on the inside layer that you can see in this photo: http://images.ellis-brigham.com/Product ... 223940.jpg

I've seen a couple of North Face samples already that appear to feature the new fabric.

Like I said, they were samples. I.e. for products that will be released next season.

Gore moved to the Pro naming replacing the ProShell in the USA last year but the fabric did not change. It was just a range name shuffle where Paclite was also dropped as a true fabric name (becoming GoreTex with Paclite Product Technology) and some other changes.

The new membrane is in most brands' Northern Hemisphere Fall 13 range which hits their stores soon. Down here with the counter seasons it depends a lot on how a range is bought with the reverse seasons - some brands refresh early in the season and some late depending on how seasonal the product is and the factory production schedule. Stock down here tends to not be such a clean change of seasons so would expect to see a mix of Pro product for the next year and a while longer in clearance specials.

Our Arc'teryx and Outdoor Research product will have some styles with the new membrane in about September and some styles will still have the older one until early next year.

I am aware of all this. And I am 100% sure that this sample product from TNF that I've seen is the new Gore Pro (not the old one with new name). As I said, the visual cue is the grid pattern on the interior layer.

proshel is grey in colour with the mesh, i think the new pro is white.

Hi wayno. The "old" (current) Pro shell is a sort of mottled grey with no mesh or grid pattern. The new one looks the same but with a grid pattern that almost looks like a rip stop, as you can see in the product photos for the new jackets available in the UK.

i think there is still a very fine mesh backer on the proshell if you look, its embedded in the membrane rather than just stuck on the back of it.

Samples from brands including TNF with the new membrane would have been floating about since late 2012 when the ranges were shown.

A good site for some details on the change and the visual difference in the backer is at http://www.gearinstitute.com/getschooled/item/gore-tex-launches-new-pro-shell
