800 loft is good to see, their other puffies were something in the order of 600.

Now I'm just starting to learn about fabrics and I'm sure Wayno or someone else here would be able to help with a question. The outer on this is nylon treated with a DWR. I didn't think nylon was particularly water resistant. What am I missing here (apart from the DWR treatment)?

dwr on the fabric repels water to a certain extent, in a short shower the water should run off the fabric, but its highly variable as to how well it works and how long it lasts or doesnt last...
if they are advertising water resistant down then the down has been treated to reduce water absorption, most reviews of it are favourable.. it does wet out less easily and dries faster. but these were reviews for overseas brands,
i dont think macpac are the ones who are treating the down to make it water resistant. they will just be buying it pretreated. how variable the treatment is depending on who is doing it, I dont know. i havent seen any particularly bad reviews on water resistant down yet.. just remember its not waterproof...
you wouldnt use it as a storm shell.... but its an option for those who end up with damp down on their trips....

I don't know Wayne, I just think in our part of the world synthetic is the go.
I would really like to see a few people in here put up a review on these type of jackets before I could become convinced.

These are good options: http://www.wildthingsgear.com/wild-thin ... le%20green

depends, just how damp you're going to get and how much you want the lightness of down
