wondered why it was so hard to find my size in the superfly pants

trojan, superfly and superfly xt jackets gone.... superfly pants gone
new jackets in the lineup. not sure of their specific details and how they fit into the lineup. but theres a couple of neoshell jackets in there and some new rain pants that have more features than the super fly pants, more reinforcing and a fly.

not sure when this gear hits the stores in the nrothern hemisphere let alone down under.

Good that their Terra pants aren't being superseded.

seem to have left the rest of the pants range alone.
Also a new better breathing synthetic insulated jacket, and a couple of other new insulated ones, ones a lightweight primaloft another a heavier weight down jacket

The more important issue is, when will they get on the "on-sale" list.

well i've got four rainshells and one is a montane, i'm just wondering at what stage of adding to my collection my girlfriend spits the dummy.... is getting five floating the boat too far out?
i'm under orders to contain all my gear in my cupboard and there isnt a lot of space left in it...

More reason to seek out UL material for volume minimisation. And if you keep your colour selection the same, no one will notice you have 5 different rainshells!

Just vacuum pack all the bulky clothing. You'll fit twice as much!

that will make it easier for her to take it to the salvation army which is what she really wants to do with it all...

if one of my sells was worn i could do a quick swap out with a new montane and may get away with it,, alas they are all relatively new

Where do you feel Montane sits on the scale of quality. I have been quite impressed with their clothing and rates as one of the top brands in my mind. Anyone seen poor quality Montanes products?

there was at least one person who'd complained earlier about the lightweight air jacket delaminating,
someone else says their is fine that might be phil? off the top of my head.
their gear is generally on the lightweight to medium weight side.
i think its one of the better brands, things like high stitch count. good cut.. clothing with reinforced areas. a range of gear some with lots of extra design features, good hood with a nice stiff peak on their rainshell to stand up to storms unlike a lot of hoods where the peak just flops around... or the hood doesnt cover enough of your face or let your head move.. has a reasonable length on the jacket, with a drop back.. not constrictive. dwr is good, far better dwr than some brands.

FWIW and obviously influenced by subjective parameters, but Montane made it to #7 on this UK based list. What happened to Marmot?

re the delamination, blacksheep mentioned at one stage there was issues with a factory making faulty event material that was used by a range of companies. and that was a while ago.. and event does have to be washed frequently to avoid issues like delamination

I think those one-off material/manufacturing failures are not very meaningful in judging a company's full line of products. For the volume they produce, they are invariable. But when they are widespread with some regularity, then it's a different matter. Sounds like Montane isn't doing too badly to just have one case of delamination problem.

i wouldnt take notice of a survey that puts rohan as number one, its not bushwalking or mountaineering gear at all. its just worn by the mainsteream public, so the survey results seem to be simply based on the no of votes for a product and the products worn by the most people will get the most votes,
kathmandu is certainly inferior in design to a brand like montane.
those polls are more a reflection of the biggest selling gear than anything else.. and thats only a very rough reflection of how good it is, versus how good the companies are at marketing and mass producing and opening lots of shops....

Yes, agree. It'd be strongly influenced by the particular brands Go Outdoor sells and what buyers had contacts with. Would be interesting to see how our fellow walkers rank brands here.

a brand like the north face, varies greatly in the gear its making, they make some good quality gear but also make cheaper gear thats of average quality and design in order to sell large amounts of it,
crag hoppers you won't find people wanting top end gear wearing crag hoppers.
paramo is pretty unique to britain, they specialise in cold weather clothing designed for british conditions.
columbia gear varies from mediocre to above average depending on the piece of gear. they've raised their game in recent years, previously none of their gear was very good at all... mammut is generally very good gear, but its price means it will never be a top seller...
patagonia is pretty good gear
rab generally good gear but most of its lightweight in orientation, i had issues with the cut of their shells being tighter fitting than others, and not in the gut but in the shoulders...

looking at the cut of this, i'd say its one of the companies that designs their outdoor gear for taking the dog for a walk along the street,

i dont think a discussion on quality outdoor clothing would be complete without arc'teryx, but they don't make the list,
their high prices don't help in their sales. but those that do have their gear generally rave about it...

some of the new kit is hitting the shops,,, one of the new alpine event jackets is there, 270 pounds....
