Hello all,

I have a tent that got damp in its packed state and developed mold! Oh no! I was hoping some of you out there might know of some hints or tips on getting rid of it? It's only on the outer, not the inner.

Wash it in the bathtub with household disinfectant to kill the mold, you may need to use a soft scub brush if it's bad, then outside to let dry, you also may need to retreat the coating

I'd want to check that the disinfectant wasn't going to damage the fabric.

Something that has been successful for me on a smaller scale, on different fabric, is oil of cloves in water, and lots of sunshine (about a week). But I have no idea how it might affect the fly fabric.

I got mould on my Macpac Minaret tent about 10 years ago. Doesn't seem to have affected the fabric as it has lasted another 10 years. I agree with the above, wash the tent in detergent and dry in sun. It's not as if the mould will keep growing in dry conditions, so once dry all you'll have is an unsightly stainand the possibility of reduced life.

It is always safer to wash outdoor gear with soap not detergent.
Sold by your supermarket as "pure soap" or Soap Flakes or by outdoor stores as Down Soap.
You are meant to use a bucket and a sponge NOT a washing machine nor a tub.
McNett MiraZyme can help after the sponge wash.
A home remedy version of the McNett product is a few drops of unshented bleach in a spray bottle full of water.
Always try a small area first...

I posted about this a few weeks ago - I had a tent that I had to pack up and leave for a few weeks wet- It got tonnes of mould on it, and what I did was go and by the strongest White King Bleach ( see pic)

- put it into spray bottle and then dilute 50/50 and then spray onto tent, then use a green scouring pad and wipe down the tent affected by mould then thouroughly wash down and rinse with hose. It came out better than new! - see my post about reproofing Mont tent.
It should give you all you need to fix your mouldy tent.
