Nemo Fillo pillow

Has anyone tried the above pillow? I am a side sleeper with wide shoulders, so really struggle to get enough height to get properly comfortable. This looks like it could be a good option.

Yes, I have the same drama. The Nemo didn't work for me and I now blow up a stuff sack and put that under a down pillow. This lets me adjust the height and I haven't missed a beat since.

We've got the large ones for car camping and really like them. We have two smaller ones but not taken them out for overnighters because we've found the el cheapo BCF Wanderer house brand pillows really good (except the fleece is cream coloured, which is not the best colour for bushwalking)

Hi mate. What was your issue with the Nemo? And what down pillow are you now using?

OK I just did some comparisons
I took photos too and I'll try to add them directly from my phone (if it will let me, without the usual 'file too big' messages)

Wanderer
180g in stuff sack
inflated dimensions 30 cm deep, 40 cm long, 10 cm high

Nemo Fillow Small
298g - has an integrated stuff sack but I can't work out how to get it into it properly so I just roll it with a couple of rubber bands
Inflated dimensions 27 cm deep, 42cm, long, 10 cm high

My problem with the Nemo was once I got something rolled up and in the straps on the back it became unstable and would roll off centre, usually backwards. I would wake in the night with my head to low and half on the pillow and half on the rolled up jacket if that makes sense.

I now use a Thermarest down pillow.

You can see how high you can get my current setup and how much surface area I have to lay my head in this picture. Plus the dry bag is something I have in my pack as I carry my food in it. Pillow just goes in with my bag.

Apologies, the inflated pic appeared upside down. Not sure as its the correct orientation on my camera roll. The wanderer pillow is the cream coloured one

The Thermarest down pillow is nice and soft and compresses well, but by itself it ends up being to thin. ie it compresses too much with the weight of your head.

I think I may have a pillow collection to rival Franco's....

Ok enough multitasking. I've been taking pics and posting at the same time as I'm serving up chicken casserole. Hubby has asked me to cease and desist.

This is one decision I am not making based on weight (within reason). A good nights sleep is essential for me and I have never slept well with any of my previous setups.

How does the Wanderer compare to the Fillo in terms of feel and firmness? And is there any attachments for additional height on the Wanderer?

The wanderer is firmer, the Fillo is softer. There is no provision to attach anything underneath the Wanderer to boost up the height.

One thing I forgot to add is that the Wanderer can be bought from BCF for $14.95. I'll need to look up the prices for the Fillow.
I realise from your comments re comfort mean that price, like weight or bulk, aren't the major factors influencing your choice, but thought I should include them for completeness.

On sale from Campsaver @ US$35.96
Not sure if they're available readily in Aust.
We've got the Nemo sleeping mats (25 inches wide) and the pillow top suede feel covers for our car camping set and they are great. The Fillows are made out of the same material and it's really nice to lie on.

I've used a small Fillo for about 2 years, though I'm a stomach sleeper so height wasn't an issue for me. I find it perfect for my needs, I have it inflated about half way and it fits inside the hood of my sleeping bag. Haven't had any troubles so far, stuff sack is easy to use, comfortable on my face, a bit of a luxury but if I've got the space, I'll take it with me.

Thanks Josh. A good nights sleep shouldn't be a luxury though!

I am also a stomach sleeper usually, but it just doesn't work for me when camping. What do you do with your arms if you can put them under the pillow?

I just noticed these are on sale again for Christmas time and realised I never replied to this post, sorry. I find the pillow is small enough that I can get my arm around the outside of it if that makes sense. My winter sleeping bag has a big hood so I can keep my arm covered when it's cold.

Old topic, but my 2 cents:

I LOVE the Nemo Fillo Pillow. I have very broad shoulders so sticking my fleece under the pillow allows it to fill the space between by arm and head when sleeping on the side. It can slip sometimes but find it's even worse with other pillows. For me the pillow has made the difference between a troubled and sound sleep....
