TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Op-Shop sleeping bag and quick washing

I wish I'd taken pictures.
I always check out the dog blanket box at Aunt Sallies etc: as I used felted woollen blankets as sound barriers/absorbers for music listening rooms.
$4- for the older Mountain Designs "Convertible"

Fill bath with warm water add 5ml of dish washing liquid and agitate by hand for 20 minutes or so, drain, rinse, add more water add disinfectant soak for half an hour.
Gently press out the excess water, spin dry for 7 minutes and put into domestic tumble dryer until dry to touch. Looked OK but still some dampness and lumps. Take to local laundromat and put into the big machine with a pair of old Crocs and put $2- in the slot.
10 minutes later and this bag looks like new.

So take note, even apparently dead sleeping bags can be revived, I would of course use a dedicated down soap for an expensive bag. But as this is for a 5YO Widget as a sleep-over bag at Grandmas house I reckon my money was very well spent

Until I washed this and it dried I had not realised it was actually box walled. A good 150mm of loft. If it wasn't a short bag I'd be tempted to keep it for myself to use in the swag. Not "State of the Art" but still a decent warm bag in the traditional fully openable style

A great find. For the next one use wool wash rather than detergent. It is much better for the down, cheap and I would reckon that your better half already has some in the laundry.

Well I usually use a mixture of ammonia and Bi-carb which is about what down wash is or the liquid "Sportwash" No dedicated woolwash in this household
Actually dishwashing detergent is very good for this sort of thing as it is designed and made to be very free rinsing. Yep do love a good bargain and the Widget was pleased as punch to have here own for sleep-overs at Granmas house

+1 I would have used Atsko Sports Wash or similar rather than dishwasher detergent but yeah, great find and further proof of the resilience of down.

Yeah Joomy but that would have made this a $25- bag wouldn't it?
It is indeed a proof of the value and resilience of down
