TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Hydration bladders/packs under assault

A new rule has just been brought out there in the US on the carriage of hydration bladders in major marathons. Hopefully the new policy won't propagate to other fields. Mad and it's not April 1st!

Medical directors at major marathons are generally more concerned about hyponatremia (too much water consumption diluting essential body salts) than they are about dehydration. I am wondering whether 'security' is being used as an excuse to try to reduce the means for excess water consumption?

Why make excuses at all?

Personally, I find my consumption decreases with a bladder. Even when I'm trying to drink more, I later check the bladder and have had maybe half what I thought. With bottles, I can sometimes down a litre in two hits.

That's a classic, they are banning water bladders but firearms are ok to carry in public
