TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Macpac tent pole end tips "stuck".

I need to replace a damaged section on a Macpac (Easton 355) pole set but the 2 end-tips where the bungee chord attach seemed to be glued in to the first pole section at each end....they won't pull-out like my other tent poles set end tips do to allow dismantlement of the pole set. I've just tried a little "gentle pressure" with a pair on LN pliers but to no avail.....absolutely rock-solid. Any suggestions ? Thanks in advance & cheers

Yes, that is the first thing I would try too.

Some Easton poles, I think it's the older black E9 alloy poles cannot have their ends removed by hand. The others don't have the shock cord attached to the end plug but to a second sleeve inside the actual pole making repair very difficult indeed.

I would suggest a quick email to Macpac or Easton for a what's next explanation on repair. Otherwise buy a new pole, which is what they want you to do.

Sorry I couldn't help more.

Thanks for the replies on this.....tried to hot water with no loosening at all so after fitting some soft jaw inserts to the vice a little more "persuasion" was applied with the pliers and they finally loosened-up and came out. Quite a bit of electrolysis dust inside the pole ends which was probably locking them in tight...but they're finally out. I expected the bungee chord to be attached to these tips but it was not....each end of the chord had a big knot tied in it and these were jammed up against the pole insert in each end pole meaning I had to cut the chord and push-out the ends of the bungee chords with a length of 1/4" rod.....certainly not "field maintainable" poles from Mr. Macpac I'm afraid and a pretty rough job really. I'll do better with the re-assembly once the new pole section and tie-to end-tips arrive. Appreciate the input anyway. Cheers

Could try a clean up with a vinegar solution in warm water. I think it eats away the corrosion crust.
