TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

What they don't tell you is that you never get them clean enough of road grit to stop it scratching the hell out of your car duco: AVOID!

The neoprene masks are sized for small Asian heads and faces, but if they fit are very good value

The Merino top and bottoms are back , $30 .
I think that they were all gone last time I tried to find them.
(mind you not that I really need them...)

BTW, I have been using their $10 socks (for two pairs) , had them washed a few times each , still feel pretty good to me.

Picked up a pair of the gloves with the tips on the thumb, index and middle finger. I also got a fleece beanie.

They both feel very warm. Heading to NZ next week and up to Mitchell River over the long weekend, so will be able to test them out in suitable conditions.

For the price they looked decent. As I told my mate who was looking to get kitted out - Would I wear them for a season at the ski-fields? Probably not, but for a week trip to the snow on the cheap, they're perfect. Had a higher breathability rating than my US$150+ snowboard pants (lucky I got them for free )

Went there mainly looking for the silk weight beanie, but there were none left (so I thought). Ended up finding one shoved to the side near the cash register, which was quickly added to my pile of the lightweight gloves, and fleece scarf. Should have gone down yesterday morning because there were no Mens thermals left other than L or XL

I have had Aldi ski pants and jacket that I have worn for the last 5 season, they are still in great condition. This year I brought a new jacket because I loved the colour!! Over the years I have brought socks, thermals, tops and a helmet. Everything has worn and washed well.

Local ALDI sold out of the fleece tops in my size but I would recommend them as a light midlayer, the softshell are too warm and heavy for walking or CC skiing and this seasons merino and polyester underwear looks to be excellent again

I've been in Ballarat helping my brother move house
On the way home on Saturday I stopped at the store on the Geelong road and found a fleece top in XXL so I bought it.
Makes a good warm but LW midlayer
Fits over the Powerstretch and under the Thermawrap and the hood means I could[possibly] leave the LW balaclava at home
This store had plenty of everything except the fleece tops

I love Aldi :)
I picked up a pair of pants for me, and some snow shoes for me & DH, some new gloves for DD, and thermals for the kids!
Oh my gosh... the snow shoes are so toasty warm that I didn't want to take them off. They come in handy for watching netball games on chilly mornings too :) I wasn't the only mum who has declared their Aldi snow shoes are great for watching kids play winter sports.. there were others... promise.
The thermals are great, and the kids loved them. We have stashed some stuff over the years, and have booked accommodation for 2 nights at Hotham. So excited!!! I've never taken kids to the snow fields before. So while they might not be to everyone's liking, the Aldi stuff will enable my little family a snowy getaway. Hopefully before my kids outgrow their snowpants... quick snow, before they grow!

I still need snow boots for the big kids, and thinking goggles.. or sunglasses? And a snow suit for our little one. Aussie disposals will be perfect for this, because their snow boots are basic black and can be handed down, and the snow suits aren't too expensive. The $10 thermals from Aussie disposals have been terrific... just saying they are getting some good wear by my DH who works outdoors.

There is no way I can justify the price of expensive gear for a family of 5 for 2 nights. But this way, hopefully, we will get to use the gear for other adventures too. St. Gwinear, will be on the agenda as well :)

I bought some of the ALDI merino long thermals top and bottom. Good price they look great but they just don't keep you warm in fact the opposite they had a cooling effect....

We (myself and partner) went hiking in the Namadji two weekends ago the weather was quite a bit cooler than expected Felt Like -6 (According to BOM) but im guessing cooler as the weather station was quite a bit lower than where we were camping. This is on the lower end of my equipment can work in... We have both camped in similar conditions quite a bit. The only real difference was we picked up a set of thermals each to keep us warm....

That nigh we were both so cold ... colder than we have been in a long time... I found the thermals sweated and the moisture was not drawn away from the skin as you would expect. It seemed to make a layer that even my bag couldn't take away the moisture. We ended up moving into the Hut we were camping by and still couldn't get warm on the floor with a good fire.

I carried an old set of thermals with me and put them on my top and found the contrast between the two amazing Warm top cold legs...!!??!! I got my partner to take hers off and cuddled until we were both warm again. Once the thermals were off we dried out and it was easy to get warm...

I guess just a bit of a warning that although this stuff is cheap and feels good, sometimes fit for purpose is not quite there.

2cents

That's the difference between Merino thermals and the polyester and why I do not wear wool underwear any longer.
However if you had not been sweating the Merino would have stayed dry and perhaps been as warm.

These Marino wool thermals seem to make you sweat! My old ones were just fine....They also seem very thin for wool its an unusual weave compared to a good quality thermals I still own. For me there's no issue with Marino wool only these ones! In theory its meant to pull the moisture away from your body not leave it on your skin to cool

Try turning them inside out as a test.

How sweaty were you guys?

Re: ALDI Snow gear sale

Thu 28 May, 2015 11:51 am

Not to sweaty.... The outside felt dry but you could feel the moisture's cooling effect on your skin. My alternative thermals were very warm still.

By, then, you would have had a change of clothing. A different condition. Confident of the comparison?

Re: ALDI Snow gear sale

Thu 28 May, 2015 1:16 pm

Its not a 100% comparison as I didn't go to bed with them on... but ive worn the thermals since just for a morning walk and again found them cooling on my skin...

I think they are fine if you want to wear them as PJ's but would not rely on them when it really gets cold!

Very interesting. It'd be nice if someone knows a reason for this. Weave pattern? Thickness? Grade of wool?

Quick follow-up on the fleece hoodie
The thin Lycra fabric under the arms that runs down to the wrist makes modifying these tops very easy, later today or tonite I am going to open up the central seam; tighten it up a bit for a customised fit and leave a small section open for a thumb hole. This way I get partial hand protection and a really good mate with my gloves

Picked up one of those snow jackets today for $19.95 they were, from memory $49.50.... Seems like they are flogging all their winter gear ,compression vests were $4.95.....so grab a bargain :D .......And before anyone asks, no, I do not work for Aldi... ..........

The new fleece top for $9.99 is very warm and true to size, I'm taking the XXL back and swapping it tomorrow for an XL. I would say it's on a par with the Patagonia Cap 4; it's a "Spare" just in case and I'll put it in the summer kit
Got the male tadpole a fleecy hooded top for $6-
