TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Vintage Down Sleeping Bags

Mon 22 Jun, 2015 11:52 am

Sorting out some of my old gear and have 3 sleeping bags and really need to off load a couple. I bought a Marmot Helium bag last year whilst in the States and it's super lightweight - and very warm - but not as robust of some of the older bags.

The old bags I have are:

Fairydown Everest Mummy which I bought probably 30 years ago but is heavy by today's standards. I used it for many years and it's in good condition for it's age. The Fairydown range used to be produced by Arthur Ellis & Co, a NZ company. I think it eventually became part of Macpac.
Macpac Meridian - A much lighter bag than the Everest and very warm. The bag has two zips, one around the base and other down the entire side but the runner came off the end of the base zip and I had to sew it closed to prevent it opening.
Blacks / Vango Icelandic - I bought this in the UK many years back. Blacks used to produce top quality gear and I don't know where the "Vango" label came from - perhaps Vango took over Blacks. It's a lightweight bag with a cambric (cotton) inner. Although it is old It is still in excellent condition having had very little use.

So does anyone have an idea what these bags may be worth?

Thanks.

I sold an identical Everest, except for mine having a short zip, for $100. It ended up being a mates rates transaction, but I don't think I would have been able to get more than $150 for it. Great bag, but by today's standards, pretty heavy for the warmth provided.
