TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Is my tent suitable for Mt Feathertop Federation Hut winter?

I have a three season tent, an REI Dome T2. I realise it is not a winter tent but according to this US review it could be used in snow.

I realise that the US review might not be applicable here as their snow has different characteristics than ours.

Last time I camped at Federation Hut in winter I hired a winter tent and it was very heavy and cramped as it was a one man tent to save weight.

If I can use my tent safely for just one night up there and perhaps for a few other nights of snow camping elsewher I would be happy.

Looks OK outside. You can always build some snow up around the sides to reduce any spindrift coming in, if it snows and is breezy, but the downside is increased condensation, which will hopefully freeze on the outer.

It should be fine for most weather up there.

One caveat: if the weather bungs up and it starts blowing a gale there is a decent chance it may break, and you'll need to bug out to the hut.
Men wanted for hazardous journey. Low wages, bitter cold, long hours of complete darkness. Safe return doubtful.
