TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Seeking recommendations for light weight hex fly

Postby Skid » Sat 08 Aug, 2015 10:02 pm

Hi all,
I'm seeking recommendations for a light weight hex fly to use with my Hennessey hammock. The standard Hennessey asymmetrical fly does not give enough coverage during storms (ask me how I know this). The Hennessey hex fly, (which I currently use), whilst giving good coverage and protection is fairly heavy (just shy of 800gms).
So, I'm in the market for something lighter that still gives reasonable coverage.
Ideally I'd like a product available in Australia, however depending on options I may have to import something.

The cuben fibre products look great, although expensive and I can't seem to find an Australian supplier.

Products looked at so far...

Overseas...
http://www.mountainlaureldesigns.com/sh ... ucts_id=59 - this looks ideal but is not stocked here
https://www.hyperlitemountaingear.com/h ... tarps.html - this is a flat tarp but would still suit my needs

In Australia...
http://www.tiergear.com.au/11/online-sh ... grine-tarp - a local product though is not cuben fibre so is slightly heavier

Anyway, just putting out to the brains trust for suggestions... Perhaps there is local small manufacturer that I have missed?

Evan from Terrarosagear makes the tarps for tiergear. I have two of his tarps, one in silnylon and the other he made in black cuben (from tier gear =D) for me. Highly recommend

Why hex?
Is something like a sea to summit 3x3m not suitable?
Something like a 350g Escapist?

I'm happy with my:

but it sounds too heavy at 700g for your requirements, though fine for my bivying.
