Storing gas canisters in Titanium pots?

Having finally decided to give gas stoves a go after a lifetime of Trangia use im wondering what everyone does with regards to storing their cookset within their Titanium pots.

Ive specifically purchased everything that would allow such 'nesting' together and as such i have the Snow Peak Trek 900 Ti, Kovea Ti stove (60g one) and i can put a std 230g? Gas canister, Bic lighter and small scourer all inside the Trek 900 with some space remaining.

Im wondering do i need to protect the Ti pots from the gas canister. If i put the canister into the main pot orientated right side up the canister base self centres itself with the radiused base of the pot and doesnt rattle.

Should i put something under the canister so it doesnt rub against the Ti pot, is it likely to wear the pot?

Am i better off storing the gas canister upside down in the main pot, allowing the red plastic cap on the canister to sit on the pot base, this woul allow the canister to move around more and possible wear the pot higher up where the canister base contacts?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think it makes much difference but I do usually pad with a chux cloth as I use these for general cleaning uses

It's titanium, you're not going to damage it.

Use a Chux cloth, cut down if necessary as your dish cloth and to prevent rattles.

I use them as towels also.

pad it a bit if you like, its not going to do much if you don't, however you may get a bit of corrosion if there is some water left after washing, so that might cause some staining. I didn't like it, so I don't nest the canister inside anymore, but others don't care. unless your set is in a high vibration area, like the back of a ute or ATV for a long time, wear won't be a problem for Ti, maybe teflon.

+1 on rattle prevention. Wrap it with Chux or a fabric bag before throwing it in the pot.

A bag made from mesh is a good 10 minute DIY project

I use a double layer of paper towel. Basically put the towel over the pot and shove the canister down top first with the plastic cap on. The paper towel is handy for other uses as well. My pots are not titanium just hard anodised aluminium.

It's titanium, you're not going to damage it.

I took a titanium mug through the Western Arthurs. Always packed with something inside it (usually spare undies & headlamp) but by the time I reached Rosanne the thing had a two inch long vertical split, from the rough handling.
They aren't bombproof.

For what it is worth I never store Gas canisters inside any cooking pots, just tuck them into the pack.

Yeah I keep a microfibre dusting cloth wrapped around the canister in mine, holds it nice and snug.

Usually have one in the bottom of the pot. Sometimes not. Space wise it makes more sense to have the bottom of the canister down, and the valve up.

I fill the remaining space with the stuff already mentioned, plus ziplocks with dehi veges, and/or my tiny(dont remember the model) Fire Maple wrapped in something, and matches etc.

No rub marks on pot or canisters.

I tried putting a chux cloth over the pot then inserted the gas canister into the pot and it is a great fit.

FWIW i tried the canister right side up and upside down and upside down is much more space efficient. Everything fits in the main pot below the rim when the canister is upside down. Right side up causes the stove to sit much higher up and while everything still fits fine it certainly takes up more room.

Well Travis, it looks like I will have to revisit which side goes up in my Titan.

I'm sure that upside down didn't work for me, but I'll recheck. Every little bit of volume/space saved is worthwhile.

There's no question about this. I can fit my stove and lighter in the pot when the canister is upside down, but they won't fit with it right way up.

It's not so much the amount of space as the shape of that space - with the canister inverted, you have a bowl shaped space in which to put things; the right way up and you have to fit things around the raised top.
