boot modification, adding lace hooks?

So killed off my work boots last friday, and turns out, not so easy to find leather soft toe lace-ups at the moment (was thinking of the rivers ones, but not for full price) So hit my local boot store and found they had some nylon upper doc martens for 130$, so not bad compared to a lot of outdoor shoes. Whats up with so much padding on shoes? So far they have been good, light, breath well, not much more to say. Time will tell as far as durability goes, but I'm averaging between 7 and 15 km a day according to my fitbit. They seem pretty tough.

Anyway, they have eyelets all the way up, so I'm thinking I want to get some speed hooks to add to the upper section. Any reason not to? anyone got any thoughts or tips? Just order some off the bay and go for it?

I had a cobbler fit some lace hooks on a pair of army boots back in the day. Worked a treat and was pretty cheap.

Hey guys, just in case anyone was wondering what the outcome was. I got a bag of 25 hooks and rivets, and did the top three rows on each boot. So far they seem to do the job well, I like the option of just tying the bottom, quickly lacing to the top, and its far easier to get the boots off now.

Where did you get the hooks and rivets from? eBay??
Most of my boots already have lace hooks on the top half and i prefer them
Glad it worked for you
