My quest for a 3 season 2 person tent...

i won't burden the hive mind with questions that have already been asked and answered in previous forums...

I'm just after opinions on this tent:

It seems like a tarp/tent hybrid - that is no inner to catch condensation on the fly but plenty of ventilation/fly screening for austral;ian use.

My essentials for a tent are room for two + packs with the opening at the head end (a la a tunnel tent), good ventilation for aus summer use and good storage for two packs. 3 season only. do i need to mention that it needs to prevent rain ingress and winds that will probably include high summer camping in Vic/Tas??

My preferences are light enough for solo 3 season use (i.e. at or around 1.5 kg), the entrance at the head end (a la a tunnel tent), ease of pitch without a civil engineering degree and big wide openings for summer use. I'd prefer two vestibules/entrances but not a biggy if the tent is capacious.

For those that wish to engage - my other shortlisted items are BA copper spur and Tarptent Double moment/scarp 2. It would help enormously if TT did not have such a big range......

Its not perfect or cheap but it ticks a few of your boxes. You do get a quality piece of kit when it's released though.

too small for 2 i reckon, and I already have an Akto for solo use so I don't need a strong solo tent. Although the akto is pretty cramped... i might sell it if I can find a do-it-all 2 man

The MoTrail is the third version of the first two-person tent made by Tarptent (since 1999)
It is one of the few remaining genuine tarp tents in our range, that is :a fully enclosed (bug proof) shaped tarp, also our most minimalistic double tent .

The Double Moment was specifically designed for the very tall but of course good for the average person that likes more headroom.
This is a two wall tent (can be used fly only) so much more like a standard tent but with a lot of ventilation options and good views if required.
The Scarp 2 has more floor area and still very good headroom but gets up a bit in weight.

Secondly, would condensation b a massive issue in this tent? I note the good ventilation.

Hi,
No, I don't have a Mo Trail.
In structure/size it isn't all the different from the Squall , it has a lot of tweaks but air flow should be just as good if not better because of the size of the end vent .
Air flow (apart from heaters and fans...) is the only way to reduce condensation however no tent can eliminate it just as you can't keep your car dry if every other car in the street is wet (after a rainless night...)
As with a tarp, you would be wise to take with you a Chux or similar to wipe down condensation if needed.
(I use Super Chux)

The BA Copper Spur UL2 fits your bill except the two entries are on the side, not the head.

done. went the TT double moment. what with that and ee quilts the US cottage outdoor industry has done very well out of me this year...
