We have found a cheap source of these in the USA
I'm thinking of buying one for myself but would anybody be interested in one if we brought back a few extra?
Probably better suited to people in the Melbourne or Wodonga region because of the high costs of internal delivery but they are on sale now for $40-USD each
They weigh 3 kilos each and excess baggage charge is $150- for 22 kilos but due to size restrictions we can only bring back fewer than maximum mass
We are still looking at how many we can bring back but if anybody is interested we can buy a few extra and share the excess luggage costs

By US forum comments in the previous years , those sleds are (of course...) very seasonal and tend to appear and disappear very fast.
A bit like the Aldi specials.

Sled dimensions exceed baggage limits and I'm trying to find out what the freight charge will be

Moondog, why don't you find a cheap bag that the sled's fit in. I assume they are stackable so you will get quite a few in there. Then it's just a weight issue.

No It's a dimension issue, the sleds are bigger than the maximum dimension allowed as luggage

Ah, I see. You need to find someone bringing in a container with some squeeze room for some sled's.

Try Royal Wolf containers Melbourne. They may put together part containers in the USA and when full they drop them on a boat.

Just a thought MD. Have you had a look on gumtree etc for second hand car roof pods. They are very close to what you are looking for and can be purchased very cheaply with a little patience. $50 or less at times!!

Waiting to see what the freight charge will be, as accompanied freight it should be cheaper, a mate brought his full sized surfboard back from California last year and it only cost him $300- and that was much bigger than these will be Then it's a matter of how many in the box divided by the cost
Each additional sled makes the box 100mm higher I think. that information is sketchy at the sites I'm visiting
if anybody has additional info please let us know
After talking to Qantas a second time it looks like we can bring them home as luggage but it would mean me only having a carry-on and a very small bag
Of course we can pack extra stuff inside the cardboard box and we will need to declare at Customs but as the sale cost is quite low we shouldn't need to pay duty
But that does mean we are limited to 6 sleds and we already have takers for all of them
If we bring back as excess baggage the cost is $175- at the airport, so 175/6 = $30- a sled which is a heck of a lot cheaper than airmail or DHL courier

Somebody who has some cash spare should look into bring in a few dozen of these
All sleds spoken for folks as we can only bring in 6

I just found more Paris Sleds on eBay

Much more expensive but the postage is wrong I think as no way could this get here from the US for $12-
May however be worth looking at for somebody who really needs one for this winter

I'd be surprised too if they can do it for $12, all the way for NJ. No harm in accepting their offer, right? It's a contract, right?

They just replied, it's an eBay glitch as they do not sell outside of the USA

We just paid for the 6 sleds; we had to cheat the system tho and use Ceciles sisters address for the site to accept payment and we had to use Paypal so we've wound up paying both NY state taxes and the paypal fee for currency conversion but still a reasonable price; I keep forgetting that sales tax in the US is never included in the advertised price and is always an extra; in New York its 8%
Still we'll work it all out when I get them back here

US state sales tax is a real pain, can suddenly turn a deal sour.
