Long pants for bushwalking - for the tall

Forgive me if this has been asked before...

In my experience, clothing companies seem to assume either: a) that 1 leg length fits all, or b) that waist circumference and leg length correlate so strongly that anyone needing an extra long pant length will also require an extra large waist, etc etc

Does anyone know where one might find long pants suitable for outdoor activities / bushwalking etc (ie the type of designs / material found in a Kathmandu or Mountain Designs, etc) that actually have some variation / flexibility in terms of sizing??

Fjällräven make pants for taller people, and a good number of their styles come as 'raw length' pant legs. They're generally well made too

+1 for Fjallraven. Good solid pants, well made and durable.Not cheap, but if you watch them, they are occasionally discounted. Cheaper to buy in person in Sweden than online. Often available via ebay. http://www.fjallraven.com/abisko-trousers

Another brand that has longer pant sizing available: Prana Zion. http://www.prana.com/stretch-zion-pant.html

I've found them pretty resilient. Some people say the stitching can break down but haven't see it yet. Material is stretch and robust.

They used to only have waist sizes S/M/L but have recently gone to inch sizing. Inseam from 30" to 36"

Prana don't sell direct to Australia. Local agents only seem to have the old S/M/L sizing, but you will find them on ebay. Cheaper than Fjallraven, but that doesn't make them cheap

Glad that you liked them Have a look at The Sporting Lodge in the UK, seems fairly common that they have sales and free international shipping. There is also that evil website Massdrop, which frequently features Fjällräven.

*edit: forgot to mention that Bogong in the Melbourne CBD stock Prana. I was looking at getting the Strech Zion Shorts the other day, but it can wait now that I've just paid rent and rego Prana looks good though!

Best to try them on if you can, they didn't have the incremental sizes when I rang before ordering on ebay. I'm a 32" waist, the S are tight, the M are baggy. They do have a cinch on the waist, but it loosens over time. Bought some size 32 Prana shorts on ebay as well, good fit.

Craghoppers come in short, reg and tall, but not all retailers stock the odd two. From memory, my reg 32 waist ones are a little short, and my long 32 waist are right to the ground at the heel. I'm normally about a 34 inseam. the hoppers also have taped heels so they should be a bit more durable. I just got a pair of their new version nosilife convertables, pretty good, happy with walking in them for a couple days, mesh pockets which gets a bit weird, but some good features. The zip legs also have boot zips, which I really liked. Seem to work on the bugs too, or at least as far as I could tell, still got a leach though.

Realistically if you wear gaiters it doesn't matter

If you like or needed bagged knees for comfort and flexibility or double knees for the extra wear then it becomes a PITA to find the right length
My solution is to wear US army surplus if I think I need bagged knees or go up a size in tracky dacks and take them in

Cool, thanks for the info Something to keep in mind for me too, as I am usually a 32" for most things. What this means in real life always changes depending on the brand, sometimes it's a perfect fit, and other times I feel like I've been eating too many eclairs.

kuhl have options for waist(30-42inch) and inseam(30-34inch). Not cheap but solid clothing built for everyone.
