zip corrosion on macpac pack

had an amp 12 hour pack for a couple of years, use it on a lot of weekends
noticed the zips are getting hard to work on the belt pockets, had a closer look and noticed corrosion on the zips
the main compartment zip is a different steel, its brown alloy and had no problems.
given you're exercising with the pack the zips need to be resistant to salt from sweat, not to mention rain, theres no point using steel that isnt resistant to corrosion
i've got black diamond packs that use the brown steel on their pockets.
i've written to macpac and they said they will take it in for repair assessment...

i'ave complained to mapcpac about their decision on this, waiting to see what their response is. i've never had a zip corrosion problem before on a pack in 30 years , probably because i use reasonably reputable brands, i've looked after the pack, it looks hardly used, unless you look close up at the zips....

Why did they use metal zips? Haven't seen one for years. What year was the pack?

friend kindly spoke to Consumer institute for me and they said the pack isnt fit for purpose if the zip is corroding outdoors.
the amp series packs were designed for endurance sports like adventure races and multisport which can go into the sea or along the coast, so they have to state if the zips will corode or it makes the packs not fit for purpose.
i have been emailing macpac today but no response, rang them and they told me they would get back to me with a response by COB today...
must say i expected macpac to just replace the zips under warranty based on my belief they had a good warranty system... based on what other people have told me about them.

Had a look and it does look like a nice looking pack. But the metal zip... Bad!

macpac rang back, they had their product development team look at the pack and have now agreed to replace the pack under warranty. looking at the latest model online, from what i can see of a blown up photo looks like the pockets on the new model uses a similar brown alloy zip as the main compartment of the one I had.

Take it to the beach and see how the new coating works. Good job Macpac in standing behind their product.

if i didnt challenge their original decision to charge me to ship the pack back to me and replace zips on the original pack i would have been out of pocket.
