Hi all recently purchased a sleeping bag but am unsure of its specs / info and was hoping the knowledge wealth of bushwalk.com would set me in the right direction. From what I know/ was told was a macpac produced bag for NZ military in Afganistan. Has a reinforced foot box Standard macpac inner label 90/10 but no other info. Looks warm++ and bulky but hoping for more info if possible. Thanks in advance!

what does it weigh?, you can compare it to other similarly weighted bags, but hard to knwo exactly without knowing the loft, looks pretty lofty, could be zero degrees or lower, you could also contact macpac and ask them

Is it wider than a normal Large Macpac?
1950grams is pretty hefty even for Macpac

Hi moon dog doesnt seem any wider than a regular macpac - weight is correct. I'll wait to see what comes back in my inbox from macpac. Thanks for your input.

Doesn't have an NSN number? If not it probably isn't an issue item.
I was under the impression that the NZ military specified black for the issue bags because that colour dries faster when placed in the sun. Interesting colour tho.
If military possibly a unit purchase?

Kiwis might do things differently, but many Armies use synthetic sleeping bags for general issue because keeping them dry under field conditions is unlikely. As MD stated a true issue bag will have an NSN but is not unusual for specialist units to buy one-off equipment (such as SF buying stuff from Mont or One Planet in Aus).

Well it is a bit of overkill for most Australian camping and walking but fine for ski-touring. Perhaps heavier than most but perfectly adequate.
Lots of our snowfields get a lot colder than the temperatures recorded at the weather stations
