Lets talk about pants

Winter is coming... mostly I hike in shorts and historically I used to like strong canvas pants like what Fjallraven makes but recent years when its cold I just wear my jeans. All the modern stretchy pants seem to dye eventually as I've experienced with my shorts.
Saying all of this, winter is coming and I've got a feeling for new set on long pants
I'd love to hear what you guys wear...whats durable whats comfortable and whats good in cold/wet.

Cotton kills. Do not wear jeans if there's the slightest possibility of cooler, wet conditions.
My favourite heavy-duty trousers are Mont Lifestyle zip-offs. Plenty of pockets in the right places, versatile, solid material, reasonably quick drying, good fit for those of us who are a little more substantial in certain bits of our anatomy (ie: the *&%$#!), and a waist where the waist is rather than somewhere down on the hips. Not sure what the male version is, but there is one. For warmer conditions without the really heavy scrub I get stretch pants from Mountain Warehouse. Again, good fit, albeit a bit closer (but the stretch makes up for that and it also means they're less likely to snag), very light and quick drying.
What works best for you will depend on the sort of walking you do. Lighter materials are fine for tracks and more open conditions but generally don't last if you do a lot of scrub-bashing or scrambling.

Patagonia RPS rock pants, then Simul Alpine pants for colder times.
I'm not realy a shorts person and now favour these models. The simul are a little stretchy and have had some minor improvements made.
If it's relly cold and I'm standing around then some kind if insulated trouser can be great.
Add thermals as required.

I generally wear stretchy fleece pants in cold weather, with thermals under those as needed. And/or rain pants over the top if I'm still cold, especially in the wind. That's an easy layer to take on and off in changing conditions.

Synthetic blend trackie dacks from PUMA, worn over long johns in cool weather. In snow it's old army LW wind pants over Patagonia Cap4/thermal weight long johns and long shorts as a mid layer although in the past it's been Powerstretch loose tights or 100 weight fleece.
Scrub it used to be old army pants or similar drill pants treated with Nikwax DWR, don't do much scrub bashing any more if any at all it's of very short duration

Outdoor research ferrosi for hot weather, Mont adventure light for the other three seasons or kuhl renegade 'softshell' for colder weather/off track.

The Macpac Trekker Pertex Equilibrium is a stretchy pant and a mouthful of a name but I'm really happy with so far. Although their fairly new and has only been used offtrack a few times. So can't be certain on durability but i have high hopes. They are super stretchy and very comfy. Slightly thicker fabric so a bit heavier but nice in the cooler months.

Huntsman247, I have three pairs of the shorts in the same fabric. I wore one pair every day over a year and still going strong. I even washed them occasionally...
The pertex fabric is super comfortable and reasonably hard wearing (for a light fabric).
I might give the trousers a go once they are on super special.
