Preparing silicone for seam sealing

Did this clip yesterday after I read more comments about some having difficulty mixing silicone and turpentine (mineral spirit)
This is for people that need to seam seal tarps/tents or indeed Tarptents.
Very simple, no special bits required.

Hi Franco,
Thanks for the video, love the background music, did you hire a live band for the occasion.
There are many types of silicon, what type of silicon do you use.
I use Dow corning RTV 732 Silastic, and after some test mixing with terps and shellite, I found shellite made a better mixture, but the mixture in the pot dries very quickly and needs to have the shellite kept up to it.

That particular silicone was actually just window sealant, not the 100% stuff.
For the purpose of the video it works the same and not only it is cheaper I also had some around....
Mostly I have used the GE branded one but the last few tents I did with a Selleys 100% clear silicone, the 75g tube.
I have always used turp, but others do use Shellite or generic "white spirit".
Typically I make what I can use within 20 min to half an hour, then, if needed, I make another lot.
The weird part about this is that people use drills to mix or shake the two in a jar for ages and stuff like that. However it really is just like making a sauce or gravy. You start with the solid and add a little bit of liquid as you mix it in.

Guys, do you paint the stuff on with a brush to say seal a tent floor? I've only used silnet and it comes out thick as applied to seams?

Also note that you can get Diggers low-odor Turps from Bunnings now. It still smells, but nothing like the full house stink of the normal stuff.
I avoided the silicone mixing on my Scarp with some
Permatex Flowable Silicone Windscreen and Glass sealer. Nice stuff, even I was actually able to make a smooth job of it.
