TIP: The online
Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Might be a silly question but what do people wear as camp shoes

Given I wear a size 13 I find things like Croc's & volleys take up to much room?

Crocs strapped onto the outside of your pack make for easy access during creek crossings. They don't take up too much room that way.
I used to take volleys, but they are too heavy.

I met a guy on track in NZ who had these slippers like socks with leather soles which were light and compact, can't tell you what they were called but looked the goods, No good when wet though, so only good in hut type situation.
Not keen on carrying anything on the outside of my pack. Not keen on crocs niether, too bulky.

Ive had a similar dilema.
I bought a pair of fake crocs soley for the purpose of camping, but then have realised that they have been way too bulky. I take a pair of thongs, but at 300 grams, i'm currently looking for a lighter solution. My old worn out thongs might have been much lighter than 300 grams, but silly me threw them out way before I remembered about taking them to camps.
Booties look light & warm, but i really wonder about their durability especially when coming into contact with wet grass and dirt.
any ideas would be really appreciated.

I take basic sneakers (aka, joggers, runners, sand shoes). They're comfy for around camp, and can double up as actual walking shoes if the boots ever fail. I have actually lent them to other people when their boots failed (and they mailed them back to me afterwards).

I often just wear my boots- crocs chafe the heck out of my feet. I'll take thongs sometimes, but not always. It depends on where I'm going.

Size 13, great nice to know I am not alone. I use Crocs, genuine Crocs as other rip-offs are not made in large enough sizing. I also have used beach walking shoes which are basically rubber sole with a mesh top and they worked ok but only a small puddle means your feet get wet through. I got the set with armour soles so tough enough to fend off sharp rocks but no way near Crocs for protecting the feet from the pebble effect. They do pack up very flat but no lighter than the Crocs. Might be worth considering. They are normally sold in dive shops or beach wear shops.

Has anyone got a pair of kungfu shoes similar to those worn by bruce lee?
it would be good if someone can weigh a pair.
I see them everywhere in chinatown.
If light enough, i might look at getting a pair as they do pack pretty small.

I've tried Nike aqua-socks - they're light weight, don't take up much room, have a good non-slip sole and dry fairly quickly. The down side is that they get wet very easily!

I found this post referring to a pool shoe:
http://jolly-green-giant.blogspot.com/2009/06/lightweight-water-shoes-and-how-to.htmlI'd feel pretty silly in something like that. They should make them in 'glow in the dark' or perhaps add LED lighting to light the way when nature calls.

I used to wear Volleys but at 800g a pair for size 13 too heavy. I then went to Asic DS trainers that I used to use as racing flats. At 600g better but still too heavy. I then went to water booties at 500g still too heavy. Then my old Hush Puppies at 480g. then I found some new trendy volleys. Slip ons with a very light sole. Only 315g!! Used them on my last NZ trip. Very good. I also have a very light pair of ballet style slippers at 62g very light but next to no protection till I thought of removing the insoles from my runners and inserting those! Problem finally sorted for under 100g! Took a while but got there in the end. I just swap the inner sole over from my runners at the end of the day and hey presto. sorted.

Ummm . . . I have a pair of TKD training shoes . . . never occured to me they could be used as camp shoes. Will dig them out and weigh them for you, but it'll take a day or two, 'cause I don't have scales here.

Crocs, fur lined in winter and plain in summer, but I have big feet, (13)these are so much lighter than my old "Big Dog" sandals, I also have a pir of Sea2Summit "jiffies" for inside huts but I don't think they make those any more

Wow, size thirteens unite against the discrimination of sizing stopping at twelve in many brands:D
