Mont icicle or fusion?

Hi all.

I wanted to get some opinions on the Mont fusion versus the Mont icicle for Vic high country in the winter. I'd say I'm pretty much in the middle of hot versus cold blooded. I can get a second-hand icicle for $250 (2012 model) or the Mont fusion brand new for $330

Depends on how you intend to wear it.
Is the second hand Icicle large enough to wear over your other minimum layers?
There is nothing at all wrong with having an extra warm layer and I'd take the Icicle if it fits well and put the money saved towards something else.
Old model Icicles seem to me to run small so check the fit if you can before buying.
The Icicle has a good hood and the Fusion has no hood; I think the hood is a plus

THe Mont icicle is a size large and I could easily fit a base layer and fleece under it (maybe even a light puffer).

Do you normally wear a Large or a Medium?
But if there's enough room to layer up under it without being anywhere tight it sounds good.

I normally wear a large but I have tried on the icicle and it would fit with my other layers.

Looks to be a S/H Mont Fusion in XL on Gearfreak at the moment $150-, with a cheap windproof over the top it might be warm enough for most occasions

Thanks for that. I found it but it looks to be some other mont jacket using Pertex. I was keen on the Mont fusion because of the fabric they use on the outside which appears to be quite a bit more durable than the Pertex shell.

If you aren't going to be climbing in it or wearing it while using an axe or small saw etc then I've never had a problem with any of the range of pertex fabric not being robust enough. You really don't need a robust outer fabric for static layers. With care a pertex shell might outlast the down fillings usable lifespan
