TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

One Planet bag + quilt

I'm wondering if anybody has experience using a One Planet bag + Quest quilt as a booster?

I'm planning to do my first few multiday walks this year, and am in the process of putting my kit together. For a bag I'm looking at the One Planet Sonder (either -5 or -8, TBD). I think this should do me fine for the near future, I'll be starting out with overnighters in Vic autumn/spring/summer. Part of the reason I am drawn to One Planet is the option to add a Quest quilt as a booster to their bags - https://oneplanet.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/ONE-PLANET-Instructions-Quest-Booster.pdf. I can imagine that I'm likely to be interested in extending my hiking ventures into the winter months and into colder climates, and the Sonder + Quilt seems like a good 4-seasons system.

Does anybody have any experience with this setup that they can speak to? My main concern is whether it will be too snug inside the bag once the quilt is inserted. I don't like to be too constricted which is why I'm not considering any mummy shaped bags, and hoping there is still plenty of wiggle room.

Cheers.

I have tried it.
One of the reasons I sold my Quest quilt was that for me the system was far too fussy and a poor fit and uncomfortable to sleep in.
Caveat in that I am a very restless sleeper.
It's a very personal decision and I'm a bit wider in the chest than some others so the Large Quest I tried were too small in real terms for the Large Cocoon I own.
Double bags I have always been a fan of and overquilts but the Quest system never worked for me. I find a bigger bag and extra clothing my better option

Thanks Moondog, very useful data point. I'm a fairly restless sleeper as well, so fair chance I'd find the same issues.

That said, I'm probably about average chest circumference for my height, so maybe I could still give it a crack.. need to think on it (in all honesty I really want the Bag / Quest system to work for me, so I'm liable to ignore all excellent advice and empty my wallet anyway).

Personally I think you would get better value for spending the same money on a LW set of down or synthetic clothing to sleep in. Much more versatile
$400- or so buys a decent set of insulated clothing but it wouldn't buy an over bag, it would however buy an Enigma Long Wide. A shame EE don't do an Extra Wide in the Enigma
