Rain Jacket, Heavy or Light?

Hi,

Looking at a new Jacket for the OT in October, currently have a Marmot PreCip - to be honest every time it has rained I have not used it as it was too hot to wear it (I live in QLD), I did do the SCT with it but unlucky me almost had 8 days of sunshine and the rain we did get was held of by my Marmot Tempo.

I am expecting a lot of rain in Oct so I want to make sure i'm prepared. If i do get a new jacket i would be looking at spending less that $300 and ordering from OS :-)

So the big question.. Something like a PreCip or do i go looking for a Gortex jacket or something similar?

Hi Farkewie,
I have Marmot Precip wet weather gear (top and pants) and have used it for the O/land track and more. Perfectly fine.
My advice would be spend your money on more chocolate or grog - whatever luxury you prefer. :D If you think you will do more off track walks in the future and have money burning a hole in your pocket (and have luxuries covered), I would buy Event (it's the new technology, did'nt you know :) ) .
Seriously, Precip on O/T in Oct - fine.
