TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Equipment hire info?

Tue 17 Aug, 2010 10:23 am

I am planning a trip to Tas mid January (teacher husband) with some overnight walking included. I have gear for myself and one of my sons, but need to outfit for husband and older son. I found this place near Launceston. Does anyone know the company or have any suggestions for other hire? It's not worth the expense of buying for them as they don't walk much...but are keen to do some in Tassie. Thanks Julie.

Mountain Designs in Launceston also hire equipment. Haven't got details but I have found their gear to be cheaper to hire than Paddy Palin. Depends what you are looking for. Launceston Surf and ski also hire equipment. Any details you would like to share on what you need - someone on this site may feel they could lend you something at a price - maybe benefit you and them while being cheaper than the commercial choices.

Thanks for posting the prices Corvus - then I found the link! dah! - blind as - I hope they hire white sticks as well. They charge a bit more than the mob I mentioned above though, but could end up better.
Couldn't find hire info for Mountain Designs - need that white stick...
We don't have anything in the way of gear hire where I am and don't even think there's much in Sydney anymore.
Now I'm on the way to solving the gear problem it seems I may have to hire a walking buddy as my hubby seems to be having trouble with his knee! Julie
