Hi all,

I will be doing the OT in late November/early december this and wanted help choosing a sleeping bag as I'm a complete beginner.

I'm looking for a sleeping bag that I can use for the OT & hopefully other hiking trips in Australia & NZ. My budget is a $100 and this is the one I was thinking about. I'm a 5'4" female so the length isn't an issue but I want it to be light and compact.

I really don't know what selection criteria to use other than the weight and my budget. Not sure if my budget is realistic.

This is the one I've been thinking about.Any opinions or recommendations? Please help

My friend bought a synthetic sleeping bag from Rays Outdoors for $110. I forget the name/model but its about the same size as the one in your link.
5 days on the OT track at xmas last year and he didnt seem to have a problem. His bag was also about 1kg so that sounds about right for your bag.

As mentioned elsewhere on this forum: you can always
try to wear some clothes to bed,
scarf and beanie aswell
chuck in some nalgene bottles with boiled water in them to stay warm. wrap the nalgene in a sock so you dont burn yourself.
hot drinks before bed time
abit of exercise before jumping into your bag.
if there is going to be abnormally cold temps this Dec, then maybe, lie in close proximity to your bushwalking partner and "extract" some heat from them.

While NP is correct, for that bag (never heard of the brand??), at 1kg the temperature ratings are fantasy!
