Shoes or boots for sth Coast track

Hi all, I am doing the South coast track in tassie in feb. Have always walked in volleys or runners. getting old so thoughrt about a purpose built light shoe or boot. Can anyone give me feedback on comfort & water resistance of the following footware:
La Sporiva "Onyx GTX Boot
La Spotiva "Sandstone" GTX Shoe
Columbia "Iaman Peak"
or any other brand or model in the $100-150 range?

Don't know any of those you suggest because I have only used Scarpa boots. But I wouldn't recommend a shoe - you'll lose it in the mud on South Cape Range or crossing the plains between red point hills and Cox bight (and possibly others that I have blocked out).

Waterproof boots arent really neccessary unless you take your boots off to cross rivers.

How about gumboots or crocs!
I'm also walking the south coast track in Feb in a pair of Asolo boots.....though sounds like I might loose them in the mud on most of the track!

Gumboots or crocs... I don't know whether you are joking.
I wouldn't like to walk any great distance in gumboots and I wouldn't carry the weight just for crossing the rivers, when they may well be over knee deep anyway. I got naked to cross south cape rivulet and it was above hip height, it would have been deeper the previous evening.
Crocs = leech access. Pass.
They might be ok for a camp shoe if you can live with the leech risk. Never worn them myself.

Yeh i'd be very hesitant to wear anything but boots. It's a very wet muddy track.

I was joking about the crocs and gumboots.
Good quality purpose made leather waterproof walking boots is the only footwear (hence the reference to Asolo boots) that I wear walking, even when I walked HInchenbrook in 2009. Sorry to cause alarm with my comment.
Not looking forward to the mud on the south coast track......

With all the good that you will encounter on the south coast track, you will happily put up with the mud. After all, that's part of the experience.

I think no matter if you wear shoes or boots, you will get wet feet on the SCT, there's no way around that. Either from creek crossings, mud or rain - you will get wet feet. Accept it
. Then it's more about comfort rather than water-resistance and I would recommend boots, because as people have already mentioned you are less likely to lose them in a mud hole.
