While I have nothing to loose using silicone diluted with Shellite I was wondering if anybody has any experience with any of the other reproofing products on the market and available here in Australia.
I have spoken to the distributor of Nikwax products and they recommend a spray on product that is water based and applied on the untreated side of the nylon.
Any personal experience out there before I peg out the tents and start painting away??

I find sprays are easier for larger surfaces, while silicone diluted with what ever (mineral turps I find is the best) is best for the seams (on sil-nylon) if its a polyurethane fly the same story just make sure you have compatible products( sil with sil, PU with PU)

I used the mcNett Thundershield Silicone Waterproofing on a Tarptent DR whose owner reported "misting"
(I forgot to test that before doing the coating...)
Here is the result :

Keep in mind that out of the 300g plus in the can , the silicone content is only about 40g, so that is the final added weight.

Well the product I have is "Diggers" - :Raincoat" a silicon waterproofing which apparently is simply silicon in solution at the rate of 160/840 so slightly more silicon, but it was on sale at Bunnings for $9- a liter

Anyway, I have just pitched the tent in the front and washed it with bi-carb and washing soda and rinsed it off well, I'll let it dry and coat the inside with the silicone mixture and then i will probably use that nikwax stuff on the outside.
I suppose I need to start saving on a replacement as well but if I get another 3 or 4 years out of this one I will be happy

OK.
I had a look at Bunnigs last week here (Port Melbourne) and could not find anything like that.
In the US there is something similar to that by Atsko. The spray version is imported here but not the liquid 1 gallon can.
You may want to test a not so visible area first but I suspect that it will perform like the Atsko 9IE, very well...)

It was discontinued about a year ago i think, anyway the big green shed was having a closeout sale and it was cheap so i got some, I'm glad I did
