Legs have feelings too

I plan to do my first Alpine snow hiking this winter, in Vic, and am wondering about what additional clothes I will need - ie. over and above what I am using for the other three seasons.

I have a ski-type jacket that I think will suffice for the top half; however, I am unsure whether I should plan for something warmer for my legs than just std waterproof overpants.

Whadaya reckon?

Andrew

PS. Is there any other Winter-only gear I should be considering?

The long answer is it depends on what you normally take but a good rule of thumb would be one extra layer for your legs, one extra layer for your head and an extra layer and a half for your torso and depending on how warm you sleep an extra mattress or foam pad
