Howdy

Thought I would post this just in case other people are considering gear purchases.

Several weeks ago I purchased a Montbell SSDH 3 from http://www.moontrail.com/home.php and noticed that I had accumulated some points. The other day I purchased another identical bag and from both purchases ended up with 96 points.

Being so used to the Australian style of retailing I assumed that these points might make me eligible for keyring or a pair of socks. However I was stunned to learn that I could get a free Neo Air.

As most of you know US retailers cant ship thermarest products outside the US so they provided names of shipping agents & advised that they would hold the goods until I had it sorted.I ended up getting it sent to the in laws place as they are visiting over easter. A shipping agent may be a bit pricier but I think it would be worth it if you are getting a free thermarest

Here is a link to the bonus points page, points can also be purchased for $1 in limited quantities and $2 each for unlimited quantities

Cheers
Andrew

Better still, you can cash your points in on a discount on the item you are buying - see this post.
A bit more info HERE. (You need to be logged in to see the discount points-for-cash)

I was looking through the point list too and couldn't believe the things I could get.

Shipping agents (Bonvu, shipito etc) are great and can actually work out cheaper. Rather than using UPS or fedex, if you can wait a few more days (as Australia Post get involved) the shipping agent will get quotes for USPS.

though, it depends on where you order from and how heavy it is.

With sites like e-omc, its 10% off full priced items and $35 flat rate shipping. Others like Moosejaw have $80 flat rate shipping and use premium carriers where it arrives on your doorstep like 4 days. If you order alot, then moosejaw might sometimes turn out much better than shipito.
if you only need 1 item then sometimes its cheaper off ebay / ebay US

I just ordered a pair of gloves, and shipito charged me $8.50 fee + 11 postage which is fantastic.
