Are Dachstein Wool Mitts still available?

I was talking to a mate about gear he has used over many years of snow camping.

He was particulalrly fond of his old Dachstein Wool mitts.
Apparently they were made in the Dachstein region of Austria, using a boiled wool process that resulted in a very dense wool that was super warm, very breathable and had some water resistance.

I was wondering if anybody knew if these mitts could be still be purchased in Australia?

Ive seen them in various places online (needlesports perhaps), iirc i think doogs (here) found some locally. My father had a pair, brought from the UK and I remember they were a fave.. people seem to now rave about possum fur.

Yes! I grew up using them in Scotland and they are great, when wet they are still really warm and I love them. I was sooo happy to pick up a pair 4 months ago in Allgoods in Launceston reduced to $25 and I have seen the there since at full price of around $40. A great mitt that has stood the test of time :)

I still use mine for some ski tours. They're breathable, water repellent and warm.

They do need some reproofing each season.

And yes, there are now possum fur/ wool blends that are fine and non-scratchy. Fashion wear only? Not cheap anyway.

I bought mine on the internet from the UK. Mountain Designs Hobart had some on special a few weeks ago.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Much appreciated

I picked up up a pair of wool mitts at a ski hire shop in Mansfield. They were getting rid of some old stock at an end of season sale.

I appreciate that this question's now been answered, but as extra info:

In the UK, Dachstein-style mitts are getting harder and harder to find, but they *are* still obtainable. The brand that seems to get stocked now is 'Ortovox': googling for 'ortovox wool mitten' should get you information, and suppliers.
