No need to apologize...
One of the "experts" at BPL called the StratoSpire a "puppy tent" so Japanese kite is somewhat of an improvement.
(mind you he confused the mesh inner with the fly but I suppose even experts sometimes do that...)
I should be taking it up to the Vic alps this week so I will see how it performs.
Not what I would suggest to the OP because it is large enough for 3 so really too large for solo use.
The StratoSpire 1 will be more like it (that is a large solo shelter) but again it works better with trekking poles than the 150g Easton poles (for the pair) that will be available for it .
If doogs is around 180cm or under I would suggest the Tarptent Moment with the liner.
That gives you a dry and fast set up at just over 1 KG. Add the extra pole and it will hold a foot or so of wet snow and turn it into a freestanding shelter.
