Hi every one,
Where is the easiest place to pick up gas canisters from between Hobart airport and the South West???
If you could give me the names of any shops and locations that would be much appreciated.
Cheers, Melinda

Lots of choices on Elisabeth street in the city centre, such as MD and jolly swagman or there is anaconda out near the airport

Hi frenchy_84,
Out near the airport sounds good as we will be getting picked up there.
Any one else have any other ideas?
Cheers, Melinda

Anaconda is your best bet, will you have a hire car?
If so don't take the highway to Hobart, at the roundabout take the exit to get you to Cambridge, as if you were going to Cambridge airport, you can get to Anaconda through the back streets.
Otherwise Hobart is the go.
Warthurs? When?

Hi step by step,
Anaconda sounds good because it's close to airport and I would imagine a big enough shop to have a good supply.
We have a minibus picking us up.
Yeap, back to "Warthurs", arriving Jan 10.
Starting to think it might be wise to have a back up trip planned it weather goes to pot! (Although it won't!)
Suggestions please?

Jan 10 eh, I'll have a word to Huey
In that area The Anne Circuit is the obvious alternative, only 3-4 days at a cruisy pace.

Yes, put a good word in for me with Huey!
I was thinking about Mt Anne as a back up. Lake Rhona looks beautiful too.
Just brought a new little camera. (Waterproof so they tell me.)
On the last trip we lost 2 out of 4 cameras to rain!

The Rhona area is magical indeed, another fantastic 3-4 day trip, if the weather is truly awful in the SW, the east coast is your best bet for a dry trip

if the weather is truly awful in the SW
I keep telling myself that 'truly awful ' is the norm and anything else is an absolute bonus!
I accept the 'truly awful'!
(Very easy to be philosophical about this sitting here on a warm night in Wollongong!

)

I dropped in at Anaconda for gas when I went that way. Be careful of "waterproof" -we found ours not so waterproof when snorkelling

Sounds like a story.

Underwater cooking
however was very dissapointed with camera- we had previously taken it swimming & got some good shots, but this time it took a few and died

made for an expensive snorkelling trip!

Yes, intent to be careful with the camera. Don't want to kill 2 off in the space of 12 months.
We had a friend who took one with him on a canyoning trip and that died a soggy death too! (He got his money back. Told them "You said it was waterproof!)
Do these companies that sell 'tough' underwater cameras have any idea of the environments we use them in? Probably not.

Get a Hero2. From the promo videos you would just about have to hit it with a nuclear bomb to damage it.

Hi north-north-west,
If I kill the new camera off (little Olympus Tough for happy snaps) in Jan I'll seriously consider something more heavy duty.
Love your way with words:
.....have to hit it with a nuclear bomb to damage it
What trips are you doing over Chrissie???

G'day Mel. And thanks.
Usual Snowy Mountains ramble. Still playing GPS tag with the AAWT and I have a couple of holes to fill in. Going up to Addicumbene from Round Mountain, and then down to Dead Horse Gap and back. Just wandering for 11 days, mostly off track.
(Mind, considering what the pack felt like when I carried it out to the car, 'staggering' would be a better word.)
I do hope you have better luck with the weather this time around.

Cheers nnw,
Will be spending a week at Smiggins between Christmas and New Years.
If I see some one 'staggering' around with an overly large pack I'll say hello!
