It worked before we hopped on the plane but when I tested it in New York it leaked everywhere.
rather than muck about I took advantage of the low cost in America to buy a replacement.
I have to say I like the new one better than the old but I did expect to see some improvements in 30 years, the only things wrong with the new one are that i can't balance my army kidney cup on the pot supports and I will need to make a new insulated base, apart from that I am very happy with the upgrade.
I know the X-GK isn't lightweight but it is the best I know of for boiling water and melting snow and that is my main use for a stove, otherwise I use wood in the tin can Hobo stove, i may now have to retire my old SIGG dixie as they look decidedly old compared to the new stove LOL

That's very interesting that your old XGK died after a plane flight. I had a plastic watch band completely die on me one time after it had been in the cargo hold of a plane flight. My speculation is that the extreme cold at altitude did your "O" rings in.

Did your old XGK have the yellow pump? Don't throw it away! Those are classics. They can be rebuilt quite easily.

Already sold it on eBat US Helped pay for the new one.
new one is just so much better it as worth doing.
It was the grey pump also and rebuild kits seemed to be in short supply and i did not want to wait.

Aircraft cargo holds are pressurized and heated. Animals travel in there too.
