TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Down Sleeping Quilt/Blanket

Mon 05 Mar, 2012 6:43 pm

Hello fellow lovers of the outdoors,

I have been thinking of a new sleeping system, and something popped into my mind. Instead of using a sleeping bag, what about a lightweight down quilt/blanket. I did some quick research, and all I uncovered was a company called Nunatak http://www.nunatakusa.com/site07/arc_products/arc_expedition.htm. But all these guys seem to offer is a kind of semi open sleeping bag, not really what I am after. I know I could use a sleeping bag that unzips all the way past the feet, but I was just wondering if anyone knew/uses the kind of thing I'm thinking of? Or have I come up with a new invention?

Any help would be much appreciated as always,
Zane :D

have you looked at Enlightened Equipment and MLD for their quilts with zippered and drawstring (features I hate!) footboxes?
It's handy for stopping the quilt sliding off you in the night, esp if you wear your layers to bed

Also check out the cottage hammock sites. They make brilliant quilts. Have a Google for hammockgear, leighlo, warbonnet make one and even jacksrbetter.

Enlightened Equipment (mentioned above) has a good reputation at BPL.
Tim Marshall there makes both down and synthetic stuff :

Note that he has many options.(shape, size, colour and temperature range )

Having checked these out properly, I'm pretty sold on the idea, don't really like the cord system, but because it's removable, that's pretty much what I was looking for. A down quilt, with nothing fancy! :D
