Bushwalk Australia

Hi - I am pretty new to bushwalking and I have never had a pair of gaiters but I think I am going to have to get some. I am getting bored of having my legs scratched and wet so can I get some suggestions as to what is an appropriate gaiter for someone walking in south east queensland? Main areas for walking include lamington and main range national parks. Cheers.

To save a heap of typing, might I suggest you search in the equipment forum for gaiters. The forum search tool is very good.
Even search for the word gaiters in the topic title (a search option).
If you're still unsure, feel free to ask for more info, there are a number of active forum members from Queensland.
Though, I wouldn't think region would play a major part in gaiter selection.

I would have thought in Qld you would want gaiters with a breathable material e-Vent or Gore-tex. The cheapo nylon gaiters would become very clammy I would think...

Canvas gaiters are actually more breathable. Membrane fabrics are more for snow use than anything.

For snow eh, is that right?
I wouldn't know as I use canvas, couldn't justify the extra expense on an item that will only live for 6 months, years ago I had a nylon pair and they were horrible for clamminess here in Tasmania so I'd imagine would be far worse in Qld.

Bought some Sea to summit Quagmire ones. They are fantastic and really do the job. Didn't even know they were on. Thanks for the responses.

Should have said got them on a super special too as they seem pretty expensive full price

Sounds perfect.

Im in SE QLD and walk in canvas gaiters and quite a few people I walk with have the S2S quagmires (some canvas/some eVent). The other essential piece of gear Ive discovered since moving here (especially if doing off track walking) is always walk with a good sturdy pair of gardening gloves (I tend to always wear them now vs have them in my pack). Between the wait a while and gympie bush they really help.
