Yep, we've taken them on walks before. You're right, they're quick, easy, lightweight, and tasty enough to warrant calling food!
Well, they're a bit better than that, they are actually enjoyable to eat.
Another cous cous dish I eat is made by buying a pre-packaged sauce, like indian or chick-pea, they are a plastic sealed bag containing a liquid saucy mix, typically about 285 grams which makes them heavy, but they are good for a luxury meal. Can't remember the brand, but I got them from Wholesome House in Deloraine, and lately have seen some of them in Coles as well.
Boil the bag for a while til it's hot, then use the boiling water for the plain cous cous.
It was hard to get the hang of how much cous cous to cook up per meal, initially we cooked way too much but can't leave food behind so we ate real well...
