Best Bushwalk Shop in central melbourne?

Postby ncharlier » Sun 01 Apr, 2012 11:12 am

I'll need to supply in Melbourne for my Overland Track trip. I'll be near the Convention and Exhibition Center, mostly. I figure on pasta and dried gravies/sauces, maybe some cheese, but some freeze-dried stuff would also be welcome, especially FD ice cream if I can get it. I won't be driving, but walking/tram/cycling are all options. Any suggestions? Also, I will need to pick up a few things I forgot to pack, like a pack towel, extra bandanna, etc.

You might have it worked out already but just make sure you have a source for you stove fuel in Tassie as it can be tricky if you arrive late and head off for an early start.

G'day ncharlier

Double check with the Cradle Parks Visitor center I am certain that they stock gas canisters.

Little Bourke Street for sure. Bogong Equipment more specifically. Great service from staff who use the gear and know what they are talking about.

Bogong on Little Bourke St, or for UL kit you can't go past Backpacking-Light off Little Bourke. Both places have very knowledgable staff and are well.
Paddy Pallin, MD, Columbia, Pinnacle, and Snowgum have stores the same street too. MacPac is on the corner.

I also recommend Backpacking Light shop, very helpful and no hard sell technique.

Bogong and BPL are about the only ones I bother with these days. Both have good knowledgeable staff and a good selection of gear. Their online service is also excellent.

I agree, Bogong and BPL, (though I love my macpac too!). I work on Corner of Little Bourke and Queen st. It's pretty tough walking past all those toy stores every day!
I am doing my best to create a blogsite dedicated to hiking in Aus, if you want to help let me know
