G'day Darren,
Your meat and three veg sounds good and I will most likely try it when my disposable income shrinks when I retire ,my complaint is with the "DEB " brand instant spud ,the "EDGELLS" brand IMHO is so much better and you only need to add water.

To be honest i didnt realise you were supposed to ad anythig but water. Spose if i havent tried it any other way ill never know. That must be what all that writing is on the back of the pack.. :D

Some of that stuff written on things can be really helpful like serving suggestion,open other end,21 standard drinks,add milk and margarine,use by/best b4,please dispose of packaging thoughtfully :lol:

Had a Backcountry 'Roast Lamb and Veges' twice on a recent hike. I really liked the potato that came with it. I dry-reach at the thought of eating Debs.

Edgell brand instant spud is just about the same as the one in the Backcountry roast lamb (DEB) to me is nothing like this.

Have been experimenting with 'making deb edible'..

Most recently I dried out a (partly cooked) sweet potato into little wedges (the whole thing dried to a hundred odd grams) and some chopped onion. We got this boiling, let it soak for a while and then added the deb (butter and a bit of extra milk) to the vegies (and the water). Next we made a 'savory mince' sauce with dried beef mince and gravy and poured this over. With a side serve of dried beans it was agreed to be the tastiest of our meals. It was cheap to make, easy to prepare, looked good, was very light and Very substantial. Could easily prepare enough for several months and use it every 2/3 nights of a walk.

Hi Corvus,

We have been using DEB, may be wrong but it just seems better (texture, taste) than the other (think we tried edgel)?
Do you have a preference for brands? Ever tried making your own?

PS, just read back and see that you use the edgel stuff, perhaps I'll give it another go.

In keeping with my add boiling water only the Edgell brand is for me ,DEB et all require extras as per their instructions .
Have tried my own Dehy spud but it was not too good.
